Moving from Download Attachments
Give your existing downloads a searchable home.
Import managed attachments, their download totals and post-derived categories into FileDeck.
On your own site
Switch in three steps
Install FileDeck alongside
Add FileDeck Pro to the same site, with Download Attachments still active. Nothing changes on your live pages yet.
Import as drafts
Go to Documents → Import & Export → Migrate. FileDeck shows a Download Attachments card with the number of managed files it found. Choose Import as drafts and click Import.
Tidy the categories and posts, then switch over
Your categories arrive named after the posts the files were attached to. Rename or merge any that read oddly, decide what each old post should show instead, then publish, swap in the FileDeck block and deactivate the old plugin.
What comes across
Only the files Download Attachments manages — not the rest of your Media Library.
Managed files become documents
Each file Download Attachments manages becomes one FileDeck document, taking its title (or file name), its date, and its caption (or description) as the description. The document uses the same Media Library file; nothing is copied.
Download totals
Each file’s running total becomes its starting count in FileDeck. It is one number, not a history of individual downloads.
Posts become categories
Each post or page a file was attached to becomes a flat category named after it. A file attached to several posts joins several categories; a file not attached to any existing post arrives uncategorised. Expect to rename some.
Your photo library is left alone
Download Attachments marks a file the first time you attach it, and FileDeck imports exactly the files carrying that mark — including ones nobody has downloaded yet. Photos, logos and other media it has not touched stay out of the import.
Review your old posts and links
Download Attachments shows its download lists inside your posts and pages, and the importer does not change those posts. Before you deactivate it, decide what each post should show instead — for example a FileDeck library filtered to that post’s category — and check any links that pointed at the old downloads. Download Attachments has no access rules of its own, so imported documents are not restricted, unless a file itself carries a WordPress password, which it keeps. A file listed only on private, draft or password-protected posts, or on none, arrives as a draft even if you choose Publish. A file you hid from one post’s list still comes across, so review those before publishing.
Why teams move to FileDeck
Search inside your files
Pro searches the text inside supported PDFs and Office files stored on your site, with OCR for scanned PDFs when you enable it — so people can find a file by what’s in it.
Access control that scales
Gate categories by role, by password or to logged-in users, with client areas for private document sets and per-document assignment to named people — set once for a whole category, not file by file.
Honest, flat pricing
Renewals cost the same as your first year, and paid plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. No introductory discount that jumps at renewal.
Want help with the move?
Free assisted migration is available. Tell us how your downloads are organised and we’ll help you plan the import and check the result on your own site — no credential handoff needed. Our migration offer can also add the remaining time on your current eligible paid plan to your FileDeck licence; contact us to confirm how it applies.
Questions about moving
Will this import my entire Media Library?
No. Only the files Download Attachments manages come across. The plugin marks a file the first time you attach it, and FileDeck looks for exactly that mark — photos, logos and other media it has not touched are left alone. See the full walkthrough.
What about files nobody has downloaded yet?
They still come across. A new attachment with a count of zero is just as much one of your downloads as a popular one, so it is imported like any other.
Why are my categories named after posts?
Because that is the only grouping the source records — a file’s relationship to the posts it was attached to. The categories are flat, one per published post; private and password-protected posts don’t become categories, so their titles stay private. Rename or merge them afterwards to suit your readers.
What happens to the download lists in my posts?
The importer leaves your posts as they are. Once you deactivate Download Attachments, decide what each post should show instead — such as a FileDeck library block for that post’s category — and check any links that pointed at the old downloads.
Will my download counts be preserved?
Each file’s total becomes its starting download count in FileDeck. Individual download events are not imported.
Make your next document library FileDeck.
Bring the supported files and metadata across, review the result, then replace your library page when it is ready. FileDeck Pro includes the source-specific importer and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Free assisted migration is available.
Try the free library first if you want to evaluate the display. Source-specific automatic import requires Pro. For private libraries, verify permissions with representative accounts before publishing.
