The short answer

Between $39 and $199 a year for one site

A paid WordPress document library plugin costs between $39 and $199 a year for a single site at published list prices. The cheapest plans are add-ons and single-purpose plugins; the most expensive is the Advanced plan of the best-known premium library. FileDeck Pro sits at $59, includes search inside files and access control, and renews at $59.

Three things move the price more than the sticker: how many sites the licence covers, whether the renewal matches the first year, and whether the plan you can afford includes the feature you bought a document plugin for. The tables below hold the first two still so you can see the third.

One site, three years

Single-site annual plans: first-year price, regular renewal, sites and three-year total for FileDeck Pro, Document Library Pro, Download Monitor, WordPress Download Manager, FileBird Document Library and Filr

Published list prices in USD, read from each vendor’s own pricing page on 13 October 2026. Totals are the first year plus regular renewals; hosting, tax and lifetime plans are not included. *This vendor publishes no renewal price, so the table assumes the listed price repeats.

Over three years on one site, FileDeck Pro costs $177. Document Library Pro Essentials costs $447 and Advanced $597. Download Monitor Basic costs $345 because its renewal is $138, double the $69 first year. FileBird’s add-on at $117 and Filr at $147 cost less than FileDeck; both also sell lifetime licences, at $59 and $149, which no annual plan beats over five years or more.

Five sites, three years

The cheapest published plan from each vendor that covers five sites. Filr’s middle plan stops at three, so its unlimited plan is the one that qualifies.

At five sites the spread opens up. FileDeck Pro is $297 over three years. Document Library Pro Essentials is $747 and Advanced $1,047. Download Monitor Complete is $995, most of it renewals at $398 a year. WordPress Download Manager Business, which covers two to five sites, is $897 if its unpublished renewal matches the list price. FileBird’s five-site add-on is $207.

Fifty sites, three years

Download Monitor publishes no plan beyond five sites, so it is absent here. WordPress Download Manager’s Developer plan stops at 48.

FileBird’s unlimited add-on is $597 and Filr’s unlimited plan $897. The per-site maths, and what counts as a site, are in the multi-site guide.

What each price buys

A price is only comparable against what the plan contains. In brief, from each vendor’s own published material; the comparison pages go deeper.

  • FileDeck Pro, $59, $99 or $179 a year for 1, 5 or 50 sites. Search inside PDF, Office and text files, OCR for scanned PDFs, access control by role, password, named people or email domain, protected files, version history, review reminders, client areas, lead capture, one-click importers from eleven plugins. Renews at the same price. 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • Document Library Pro, Essentials at $149 or Advanced at $199 for one site. Search inside file contents is on the Advanced plan, and the vendor states it does not cover scanned or image-only files. 30-day money-back guarantee, a 15% nonprofit discount on request, free setup, and an expired licence keeps working without updates. FileDeck vs Document Library Pro.
  • Download Monitor, $69 Basic to $199 Complete, renewing at $138 to $398. Basic adds reporting and anti-spam; form-gated and email-gated downloads are on Complete, and table views come through a paid extension. FileDeck vs Download Monitor.
  • WordPress Download Manager, $99 Pro for one site, $299 Business for two to five, $499 Developer for up to 48. The pricing page publishes no renewal price. FileDeck vs WordPress Download Manager.
  • FileBird Document Library, an add-on to the FileBird folders plugin, $39 a year or $59 lifetime for one site. The add-on provides the document library display; FileBird itself organises the Media Library. FileDeck vs FileBird.
  • Filr, $49 a year or $149 lifetime for one site, with user, role and email restriction and expiring links. Plans differ by site count, not by feature. 14-day refund period. FileDeck vs Filr.

Three ways to pay less for the same library

1

Check whether the free version is enough

A public library with no restricted documents needs layouts, search, filters and sorting, which FileDeck gives away with no site or document limit. When the free version is enough.

2

Buy the sites you run, once

One FileDeck Pro licence covers up to five sites for $99 or fifty for $179, so a second site does not mean a second licence. Multi-site licence costs.

3

Read the renewal line before you buy

Two of the vendors here renew at double the first-year price. A plan that renews at what you paid costs what it says. Why renewals go up.
