Moving from Document Library
Keep your documents and categories, replace the old plugin, and get a faster, genuinely searchable library — in minutes. FileDeck reads your Document Library Lite or Pro library right where it sits and brings it across in one click: documents, categories, tags and files. It all runs on your own WordPress; your files never move.
One click, on your own site
Switch in three steps
Install FileDeck alongside
Add FileDeck Pro to the same site, with Document Library still active. Nothing changes on your live pages yet.
Click Import
Go to Documents → Import & Export → Migrate. FileDeck shows a Document Library card with the number of documents it found — click Import. It runs in the background, so a large library won’t tie up your browser. Import as drafts first if you’d like to review before going live.
Switch the old plugin off
Spot-check the results, swap in the FileDeck block or shortcode, and deactivate Document Library. Your files never moved — they’re linked right where they already were.
What comes across
The parts that matter come with you — automatically, with nothing sent off your server.
Documents & files
Every document comes across with its title and description. Uploaded files stay as the same Media Library attachment — nothing is copied or moved.
Categories & tags
Your document categories — including sub-categories — are rebuilt with the same nesting, and your tags come too.
External links
Documents that point at a file on Drive, Dropbox or anywhere else keep their link.
Runs on your own site
Both Lite and Pro are supported, and nothing is sent anywhere — the whole move happens on your own WordPress.
Why teams move to FileDeck
Search inside your files
Full-text search reads inside your PDFs and Office documents — OCR for scanned PDFs included — from $59/yr. Document Library added content search to its paid plugin in August 2026; Lite searches the table only.
Real access control
Gate categories by role, by password or to logged-in users, with client areas for private document sets and per-document assignment to named people — set it up in FileDeck after you move.
Honest, flat pricing
Your renewal never jumps, and a 30-day money-back guarantee backs every plan. No switch-and-bait discounts that spike at renewal.
Prefer a hand? We’ll do it with you.
Big or unusual library? We’ll walk the import through with you and stay on it until it’s live and you’re happy — and we’ll add the time left on your current plan to your FileDeck licence, so you never pay twice. No credential handoff needed; it all runs on your own site.
Questions about moving
Does this work with the free Lite version?
Yes — both Document Library Lite and Document Library Pro store their documents the same way, so FileDeck reads either. See the full walkthrough. Still weighing the two plugins? Read the feature-by-feature comparison →
Do I need to export anything first?
No. FileDeck reads your library directly from your own site — there’s no file to export and no columns to map. Just keep Document Library active while you import.
Are my files copied or moved?
Neither. Uploaded files stay as the same Media Library attachment and FileDeck links to it; external links keep their URL. Nothing is duplicated or moved on disk.
Is it safe to run more than once?
Completely. FileDeck remembers which documents it has already imported, so re-running skips them and never creates duplicates. If an import is interrupted, just start it again — it picks up where it left off, and your original content is never changed.
Bring your library across today
Install FileDeck Pro, click Import, and have a faster, searchable library live in minutes — with your documents and categories intact.
Want to look before you buy? Install the free version → — it runs happily alongside your current plugin, and nothing is imported until you tell it to. The one-click importer is a Pro feature; you can add Pro whenever you’re ready.
