Switch from Shared Files to FileDeck

Moving from Shared Files

Keep your files and categories, replace the old plugin, and get a faster, genuinely searchable library — in minutes. FileDeck reads your Shared Files library right where it sits and brings it across in one click: files, categories, tags, download counters and password-protected items included. It all runs on your own WordPress; your files never move.

One click, on your own site

Switch in three steps

1

Install FileDeck alongside

Add FileDeck Pro to the same site, with Shared Files still active. Nothing changes on your live pages yet.

2

Click Import

Go to Documents → Import & Export → Migrate. FileDeck shows a Shared Files card with the number of files it found — click Import. It runs in the background, so a large library won’t tie up your browser. Import as drafts first if you’d like to review before going live.

3

Switch the old plugin off

Spot-check the results, swap in the FileDeck block or shortcode, and deactivate Shared Files. Your files never moved — they’re linked right where they already were.

What comes across

The parts that matter come with you — automatically, with nothing sent off your server.

Files & descriptions

Every file becomes a FileDeck document with its title and description. Files stay right where they live — nothing is copied or moved.

Categories & tags

Your categories — including sub-categories — are rebuilt with the same nesting, and your tags come too, even a custom tag taxonomy.

Download counters

Each file’s running total carries over, so your numbers don’t reset to zero on the way in.

Protected files

Password-protected files become documents restricted to logged-in users, so gated files stay gated after the move.

Why teams move to FileDeck

Search inside your files

Full-text search reads the contents of your PDFs and Office documents, not just their titles — so people find the right file by what’s in it.

Access control that scales

Gate categories by role, by password or to logged-in users, with client areas for private document sets and per-document assignment to named people — set once for a whole category, not file by file.

Honest, flat pricing

Your renewal never jumps, and a 30-day money-back guarantee backs every plan. No switch-and-bait discounts that spike at renewal.

Prefer a hand? We’ll do it with you.

Big or unusual library? We’ll walk the import through with you and stay on it until it’s live and you’re happy — and we’ll add the time left on your current plan to your FileDeck licence, so you never pay twice. No credential handoff needed; it all runs on your own site.

Questions about moving

Do I need to export anything first?

No. FileDeck reads your Shared Files library directly from your own site — there’s no file to export and no columns to map. Just keep Shared Files active while you import. See the full walkthrough.

Will my download counters be preserved?

Yes. Each file’s counter carries over, and your files are linked exactly where they already are — including files Shared Files manages itself. Nothing is duplicated or moved on disk.

What happens to password-protected files?

They come across as documents restricted to logged-in users, so they stay gated from day one. If you’d rather keep a password prompt instead, FileDeck can password-protect a single document (the editor’s Password protected visibility) or a whole category — set a category password and move them in.

Is it safe to run more than once?

Completely. FileDeck remembers which files it has already imported, so re-running skips them and never creates duplicates. If an import is interrupted, just start it again — it picks up where it left off, and your original content is never changed.

Get FileDeck Pro

Want to look before you buy? Install the free version — it runs happily alongside your current plugin, and nothing is imported until you tell it to. The one-click importer is a Pro feature; you can add Pro whenever you’re ready.
