Migrate from Shared Files Pro
Move a Shared Files library into FileDeck in one click at Documents → Import & Export → Migrate — files, categories, tags, download counts and password-protected items.
FileDeck Pro imports a Shared Files library directly — no export file, no column mapping. Go to Documents → Import & Export → Migrate, and if Shared Files’ data is present on your site FileDeck shows how many files it found and an Import button. One click copies them across as FileDeck documents, and everything runs on your own server; nothing is sent anywhere.

What comes across
| From Shared Files | Becomes in FileDeck |
|---|---|
| File title & description | Document title & description |
| File categories (including sub-categories) | Document categories, with the same nesting |
| File tags | Document tags |
| The file itself | The document’s file — the same Media Library attachment where the file came from the library, otherwise linked by URL |
| Download counter | The document’s download count |
| Password-protected files | Documents set to logged-in users only visibility |
Each file becomes one FileDeck document.
How to import
- Keep Shared Files active for now, so FileDeck can read its files, categories and tags.
- Go to Documents → Import & Export → Migrate.
- On the Shared Files card, choose whether to Publish the imported documents or bring them in as drafts to review first, then click Import.
- The import runs in the background — you can leave the page. Progress shows how many files have been processed.
- When it finishes, open Documents → All Documents and spot-check a few: titles, categories, files and counts.
- Rebuild the search index at Documents → Settings → Search Index so full-text search picks up the new documents.
- Once you’re happy, deactivate Shared Files.
Is it safe to run more than once?
Yes. FileDeck records which Shared Files file each imported document came from, so re-running skips anything already imported and never creates duplicates. If an import is interrupted, just start it again — it picks up where it left off. Your original content is never modified.
FAQ
Do my files get copied or moved?
Neither. Files that came from your Media Library are linked as the same attachment; files Shared Files manages itself are linked by their URL. Nothing is duplicated on disk.
Will my download counters be preserved?
Yes — each file’s counter is carried over to the FileDeck document, so your numbers don’t reset to zero.
What happens to password-protected files?
They become FileDeck documents restricted to logged-in users, so they stay gated after the move. FileDeck’s own password protection works per category rather than per file, so if you want to keep a password prompt, put those documents in a category and set a category password.
My tags didn’t come across — why?
Shared Files lets you choose which tag taxonomy it uses (by default WordPress’ own tags). FileDeck reads whichever one your site is set to, but only while Shared Files is active — so run the import before you deactivate it.
Do I have to keep Shared Files installed afterwards?
No. Keep it active during the import so FileDeck can read its data, then deactivate (or delete) it once you’ve confirmed everything came across.
Shared Files is a trademark of its respective owner. FileDeck is an independent product, not affiliated with or endorsed by it; the name is used only to identify the plugin whose data is being imported.
