File-type and folder icons Pro
Download buttons show an icon per file type, and each category can carry its own folder icon in the folder layout — from a built-in set, no uploads.
FileDeck Pro adds two small visual touches that make a library easier to scan: a file-type icon on each download button, and an optional folder icon for every category in the folder layout. Both draw from a built-in icon set — there’s nothing to upload and no icon files to manage.

File-type download icons
When your download link style is Icon only or Button with icon, the icon reflects the document’s file type instead of a generic arrow — a distinct mark for PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, archives, and images, with a plain document icon for anything else.
There’s nothing to configure. Choose the link style under Documents → Settings → Display → Download link style, and each button picks the right icon automatically from the document’s file type. (The other link styles — plain button and text link — don’t show an icon.)
Folder icons per category
In the folder layout, each category is a collapsible folder with a folder icon. You can give any category a more descriptive icon — a book, briefcase, scales for legal, a clipboard for forms, a chart for reports, and more.
- Go to Documents → Document Categories and edit (or add) a category.
- Under Folder icon, pick an icon from the built-in set.
- Save. The folder layout now shows that icon for the category.
Leave the picker on Default to keep the standard folder icon — categories without a chosen icon are unchanged, so turning this on never alters a library you haven’t touched.
FAQ
Can I upload my own icons?
No. The icon set is built in and closed — it keeps the plugin lean and avoids managing uploaded image files. Pick from the provided icons.
Do the icons work with the block and shortcode?
Yes. File-type icons follow the download link style wherever a library renders — block, shortcode, or Elementor widget. Folder icons apply anywhere the folder layout is shown.
Are the icons accessible?
Yes. The icons are decorative and marked aria-hidden; the download link keeps its own text label ("Download …"), and each folder still shows its category name, so screen readers are unaffected.
Where do file-type icons come from for external links?
From the document’s file type when FileDeck knows it. A linked file with no detectable type falls back to the generic document icon.
