Replace or update a document's file Free & Pro

To publish a new revision of a file, open the document and swap the attached file on the edit screen — the document’s URL and download link stay exactly the same, so every link you have ever shared keeps working. On Pro, the old file is archived automatically in version history.

How to replace the file

1. Go to Documents → All Documents and open the document.
2. In the Document File panel, remove the current file and attach the replacement — drag and drop the new file, or pick it from the Media Library.
3. Click Update.

FileDeck re-captures the size, type, and filename from the new file automatically, so your library columns stay accurate without any manual edits.

Why the download link never changes

Downloads route through FileDeck’s own endpoint (/fdk-download/{id}) rather than the raw file URL. The endpoint always serves the document’s current file, so bookmarks, emailed links, and buttons on other pages keep working after a replacement — visitors simply get the new file. The lifetime download count also continues on the same counter.

Replace, don’t duplicate

Because each document holds exactly one file, the right way to ship a revision is to replace the file — not to create a second document. A duplicate would start with a fresh URL and a fresh counter, and it would leave the outdated copy sitting in your library.

What Pro adds

With FileDeck Pro, the document editor shows a Version History box: when you replace the attached file, the old file is archived there automatically, so earlier revisions are never lost. See version history.

FAQ

Will links I’ve already shared break?

No. The download link points at the document, not the file, so it serves whatever file is currently attached.

Do I lose the download count when I replace the file?

No. The counter belongs to the document and keeps counting across replacements.

Can I undo a replacement?

On Pro, the old file is archived automatically in version history, so you can get the earlier revision back. On Free, re-attach the earlier file from the Media Library if it is still there.
