The setup wizard Free & Pro
FileDeck's three-step setup wizard sets your layout, columns, accent color, and library page on first activation. How to skip, re-run, or change it later.
When you activate FileDeck for the first time, a three-step setup wizard opens in wp-admin. It walks you through choosing a layout, picking columns and an accent color, and confirming your library page. Every choice is optional and can be changed later in Documents → Settings, so there is no wrong answer.
What the three steps cover
- Choose a layout. Pick table, grid, or folders as the default for your library. Table shows documents in sortable rows, grid shows card-style tiles with featured images, and folders groups documents into collapsible categories.
- Choose columns and style. Select which columns your library shows (title, categories, date, size, type, download link, and more), and set your accent color so the library matches your site’s branding.
- Create or confirm your library page. FileDeck auto-creates a "Document Library" page on activation; this step lets you confirm it or point FileDeck at a page of your choosing.
When you finish, the library page is live and ready for documents. Head to the quick start to add your first files.
Can you skip the wizard?
Yes. You can close or skip the wizard at any step, and FileDeck falls back to sensible defaults: the table layout, the default columns and accent color, and the auto-created "Document Library" page. Skipping the wizard never blocks you from using the plugin.
How to re-run the wizard or change your choices
You do not need the wizard to change anything — every option it sets is a normal setting:
- Layout and columns live in the FileDeck Library block settings (or the shortcode’s
layoutandcolumnsattributes) and in Documents → Settings. - The accent color is under Documents → Settings on the Display tab, alongside the other display options.
- The library page is a regular WordPress page you can edit, rename, or replace like any other.
If you prefer the guided flow, you can re-run the wizard from Documents → Settings at any time. Re-running it does not touch your documents — it only updates the same layout, style, and page options.
FAQ
I skipped the wizard — did I miss anything?
No. The wizard only sets the layout, columns, accent color, and library page, all of which you can configure in Documents → Settings and in the block or shortcode.
Does re-running the wizard delete my documents?
No. The wizard never touches documents, categories, or files. It only updates display settings and the library page choice.
Can I use a page I already have instead of the auto-created one?
Yes. Either select your page in the wizard’s third step, or add the FileDeck Library block or [filedeck] shortcode to any existing page.
