The setup wizard Free & Pro
FileDeck's three-step setup wizard sets your layout, detects other plugins' documents for one-click migration, and gets your first files in.
Updated August 2, 2026
When you activate FileDeck for the first time, a three-step setup wizard opens in wp-admin. It walks you through choosing a layout and accent color, then getting your first documents in. Every choice is optional and can be changed later in Documents → Settings, so there is no wrong answer.
What the three steps cover
- Welcome. FileDeck has already created a "Document Library" page for you on activation — the wizard confirms it and explains what the next two steps do.
- Pick a layout and accent colour. Choose the table, grid, gallery or folders layout as your library default, and optionally set an accent colour so the library matches your site’s branding. (Columns are set later, under Documents → Settings → Display.)
- Add your documents. The fastest route is the drag-and-drop uploader — drop in a folder’s worth of files and each one becomes a document. You can also add a single document, or load the removable sample library to try search, filters and every layout before committing your own files. The wizard’s Finish button takes you to your live library page.
If you’re switching from another plugin
On FileDeck Pro, the last step also checks your site for importable documents from other document and download plugins. If it finds any, it names the plugin, says how many items it found, and links you straight to the one-click migration tool. The original plugin and its data are left untouched. See migrating from another plugin for the full list of supported plugins.
Pro and AI next steps
On Pro sites the wizard ends with a short "worth setting up next" list — building the content search index so visitors can search inside PDFs, restricting categories to roles or a password, and connecting cloud storage. On the AI & Governance plan it also points you at choosing an AI provider and adding your API key, since AI features stay off until you do.
Can you skip the wizard?
Yes. You can skip the wizard at any step, and FileDeck falls back to sensible defaults: the table layout, the default accent color, and the auto-created "Document Library" page. Skipping the wizard never blocks you from using the plugin.
How to re-run the wizard or change your choices
You do not need the wizard to change anything — every option it sets is a normal setting:
- Layout lives in the Document Library block settings (or the shortcode’s
layoutattribute) and in Documents → Settings. - The accent color is under Documents → Settings on the Display tab, alongside the other display options.
- The library page is a regular WordPress page you can edit, rename, or replace like any other.
The wizard is offered by the setup notice after activation, and from the "run the setup wizard" link on an empty Documents list. You can also return to it directly at any time via wp-admin/admin.php?page=filedeck-setup. Re-running it does not touch your documents — it only updates the same layout and accent-colour options.
FAQ
I skipped the wizard — did I miss anything?
No. The wizard only sets the layout and accent color, all of which you can configure in Documents → Settings and in the block or shortcode — and its shortcuts (the uploader, migration tool, and sample library) are all normal screens you can reach from the Documents menu at any time.
Does re-running the wizard delete my documents?
No. The wizard never touches documents, categories, or files. It only updates display settings.
Can I use a page I already have instead of the auto-created one?
Yes. Add the Document Library block or [filedeck] shortcode to any existing page, and edit or delete the auto-created page like any other WordPress page.
