The Document Library block Free & Pro

The Document Library block is the easiest way to put a document library on any page or post. Add it in the WordPress block editor and you see your library, styled, while you design it — no shortcode syntax required.

How to insert the block

1. Go to Pages → Add New (or edit any existing page or post).
2. Click the + inserter and search for Document Library.
3. Insert the block. Your documents appear in the editor, in FileDeck’s styles.
4. Pick a layout in the block’s settings panel, or click Open the library builder for the other options (below).
5. Publish. Search, filters and paging work on the published page.

What you can configure in the block

• Layout — switch between the table, grid, gallery and folder layouts straight from the settings panel.
• Open the library builder — opens the library builder over the editor with every library option: columns, categories and tags, sorting, filters, paging, download links, preview, colours and messages. Its preview shows the library on your site’s front end, in your theme, as a logged-out visitor sees it. Apply to this block saves the design to the block.

Below the button, the settings panel shows the block’s design as a [filedeck] shortcode. Anything you leave unset follows your site-wide defaults from Documents → Settings.

How the block relates to the shortcode

The block and the [filedeck] shortcode are the same library written two ways: each option the library builder sets is a shortcode attribute, and the shortcode shown under the button renders the same library (colour and border settings from the block’s own Styles panel aside). Copy it into a widget area or a page builder’s shortcode element to use the same design there. See the shortcode reference for the full attribute list.

FAQ

Do I need the block, or can I use the shortcode instead?

Either works. The block and the shortcode render the same library; the block adds a styled preview in the editor and the library builder’s visual controls on top.

Can I add more than one Document Library block to a site?

Yes. Each block is configured independently, so different pages can show different categories, layouts, and columns. See multiple libraries on one site.

Is the block available in the free version?

Yes. The Document Library block, all four layouts, and every column are included in the free plugin on wordpress.org.
